The Power of "I Am"

Updated: Jun 6, 2019

Whats all this hoopla about "positive affirmations" and "manifesting" things anyway?

In my journey of shifting my thoughts for a more powerful life, I have flooded my mind with powerful quotes. I strongly support the idea that there is power in our thoughts, words, actions and habits. I want to share a bit with you about the power of your words.

There is a long standing belief that we believe anything after the words “I am” and this makes sense, right? After-all, who knows you better than yourself? It's only right that we believe the things we say and think about ourselves.

blessed and highly favored

With that being said, I want you to consider the nature of your relationship with yourself by asking yourself the following questions:

Do you speak kindly to yourself?

What do you say to yourself when you make a mistake?

Are your words uplifting?

And my personal favorite: If someone said the things to you that you say to yourself, would you still like them?

Once I realized that my self would be fighting words if someone else said them to me, I knew it was time for a change.

My Reaction to some stuff I have said to myself.

When you say “I am”, what are the first things that come to mind? Mine are: Blessed, innovative, motivated, sexy, smart and the list goes on.

At this point in my life, I speak kindness into myself, but that wasn’t always the case. I was my own worst critic and all that really did was make anxious.

Because I was constantly judging myself and my efforts, I assumed that others did that too.

Changing my self talk took deliberate work and I treated it like a second job. I was thirsty for a new way of thinking.

I noticed all of my favorite influencers talking about “affirmations” and “affirming” the life you wanted. I honestly thought it was a load of bull.

....but then I tried it. At the time, I was really struggling with my confidence and a few other things. I did some research and came across the “Think Up” app and began repeating affirmations about confidence and other things I wanted to work on.

Within two weeks or so, with consistent practice my affirmations, I could hear a difference in the way I spoke, I walked with more confidence and my affirmations sounded a lot more powerful and self assured.

It honestly sounds silly, but I truly believe that we are creatures of habit. Self-love is a habit I actively work on building and I hope you join me in doing the same.

Here are three ways I use affirmations

1. Write positive messages to myself and stick them on my mirror every morning (when I remember).

2. “Think Up” (you record your own affirmation and play them on the go)

3. I use the “Selfish Babes” app (gives you amazing affirmations throughout your day via notifications).
